Lobsang’s Words:
We need to change ourselves from within through meditation on equanimity. We need to be mindful of our tendency to form and create attachments. We need to be aware of exaggerating or imputing qualities of perfection that lead to strong attachment to others. In the same way, we need to look upon our aversions as something that we create within us. After all, things can change. Someone we love can become a person whom we don't love. Our attachment is very changeable.
This is why equanimity is very important. We do not lose empathy when we have equanimity. We realise the nature of unconditional love. We're not anesthetized when we practice equanimity. Instead, we are in a state of wisdom and clarity. We see the depths beneath the waves. Actually, no waves exist in the clear waters of equanimity.
